Community service is an activity that benefits our community. MTCHS requires students to perform nine (9) hours of community service each academic year. Students do not receive compensation for community service.
Students will develop a plan and earn hours by completing school-sponsored community service activities and/or student-initiated community service.
School-sponsored community service is an activity that is sponsored by MTCHS or one of the MTCHS organizations. Refer to examples listed below. The MTCHS sponsor of each activity will have a sign-in sheet for participants at the activity which will be used to track community service hours. Copies of these sheets will be submitted to the instructor.
Student-initiated community services involves a student identifying a need in the community, obtaining approval from the instructor, and performing the community service on their own. Students must have the activity approved by the instructor prior to engaging in it. These hours will be reported to the instructor as instructed at the time approval is granted.
Students will earn 10 points for each hour of community service they complete. Grading will include:
- Quarter 1 - Completion of Community Service Plan (10 points)
- Quarter 2/Semester 1 - At least 3 hours completed for grades 9, 11 & 12
- Quarter 3 - A total of at least 6 hours completed for all grades
- Quarter 4/Semester 2 - A total of 9 hours completed for all grades
